Will the Cleveland Cavaliers Benefit More from Picking Andrew Wiggins over Kevin Love?

Wiggins(right) has the potential of becoming a better player than Love(left)

It might sound ludicrous, but I'd rather invest on Andrew Wiggins' talent than on Kevin Love's. At age 19, Wiggins has a long way to go in the NBA. Expect trade rumors to surround him due to the current situation of the Cleveland Cavaliers. They've had the their best offseason in decades so far due to their achievement in luring back their former player, LeBron James. Now that LeBron is once again part of the team, General Manager David Griffin and Owner Dan Gilbert must decide thoroughly and make a tough decision by either trading Wiggins for Love or keeping Wiggins on the team and wait for him to blossom. But for me, it would be better to take the risk by giving Wiggins the chance to prove why he was picked number one overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. We all know that he has a lot to prove especially at this stage of his career. Under the guidance of LeBron James and the newly-hired coach David Blatt, he can be a better basketball player and exceed most people's expectations of him. If experts think he relies too much on his skills and athleticism, then he might even prove them wrong. Like I said, there is so much potential in this guy and it's his choice whether to live up to it or not. His hidden potential is the main reason why I chose him over the 2012 three-point shootout champion Kevin Love. Some of you might ask me: Why Wiggins and not Love? Well, here's my answer: Kevin Love showed the world that he is incapable of leading his team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, to the playoffs ever since he was drafted 5th overall in 2008. Therefore, he is not a proven leader who can lead the team to victory if ever James won't be around. Sadly, he already has his ego which would prevent him from listening and following James' advices. Inevitably, Love will be able to fortify Cleveland's offense due to his 3-point shooting, rebounding, and facilitating skills. But his defense is questionable. Will he be able to become the defensive big man Cleveland needs? I don't think so. But in Andrew Wiggins' case, he might just be the right man to anchor the Cavs' defensive limitations. At a young age, he has so much potential and skills that could even make him a better overall player than Love. So if I were the General Manager of the Cavs, I would keep Andrew Wiggins and nurture his skills so that he may become guy that most people would expect him to be.
